50 matches in Green and Black for academy product Thibo Somers!

After Charles Vanhoutte last week, there is another academy player from Cercle who has now played in 50 matches with the first team. Thibo Somers (22) was in the starting eleven for the Groen-Zwart in the 1-2 victory against STVV and therefore had something extra to celebrate in addition to the win. Congratulations!

You will find it hard to find a player who represents the Groen-Zwart more than Thibo Somers. Thibo has been proudly playing for Cercle for more than 15 years. After he signed his first professional contract with Cercle in 2019, that contract was extended last year, together with those of Robbe Decostere and Charles Vanhoutte, until 2023.

Just like Charles Vanhoutte, Thibo Somers is also a past winner of the Pop poll, run by the supporters' group d'Echte. Two seasons ago Somers won with his love for Cercle, beating out Giulian Biancone and Stef Peeters.

This season, Thibo has already played 14 times for Cercle and scored 3 times.

Congratulations, Thibo!

Thibo Somers: “Hopefully we can celebrate again soon with the supporters”

Thibo Somers was once again a scourge of the Eupen defense, playing a complete match and in the end the Cercle youth product was also able to break the deadlock, giving Cercle the lead fifteen minutes from time “It was a very difficult game for us, especially the first half. The game was closely fought for a long time and we didn't create many chances. Eupen played with a very low block and only attacked with long balls. In the second half we came out of the dressing room physically stronger and luckily we can take three points back to Bruges. We do hope that the supporters will be able to return to the stadium soon, because we do miss them.”

Senna Miangue: “Winning 6 of our last 7 matches is an impressive statistic”

Senna Miangue had a hand in Thibo Somers' opening goal against Eupen with a long throw-in, but the Belgian also realizes that Cercle did not play its best game: “It was not a strong match for us, but in the end we also have to learn to win matches without style. Today was the perfect example: not our best display, but the most important thing is that we won.”
