A 0-0 draw away to RC Lens was enough for AS Monaco on Sunday evening to hold onto 3rd place in Ligue 1 Uber Eats. The Monegasques are thus certain of a place in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League. The title in France went to Lille OSC, who finished ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco.
AS Monaco are back in the Champions League!
After three seasons, a return to the Champions League!
On the last day of Ligue 1, there was still plenty at stake: Lille and PSG both could win the title and it was between Monaco and Lyon for the last UEFA Champions League place. The difference between Monaco and Lyon before the start of the last league match? 1 point, with the Principality side narrowly ahead. While a difficult trip was on the schedule as ASM traveled to play RC Lens, Lyon would be playing at home against OGC Nice.
Monaco were eager to stay in third place. At the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, the Rouge et Blanc played a solid match. The Monegasques even thought they had scored, but Badiashile's goal in the first half was disallowed for offside. Monaco never were really troubled, but neither did they threaten the hosts’ goal; 0-0 was the final score. When immediately after the final whistle it became clear that Lyon had lost 2-3 to Nice, 3rd place in Ligue 1 was confirmed.

Next season, AS Monaco will again play in the Champions League after a 3-season absence. It’s a well deserved reward for what has been a strong season for ASM. The entire Cercle family would like to congratulate AS Monaco for finishing on the podium and for their qualification for the Champions League!
