Senna Miangue joins Cercle Brugge

Cercle Brugge and Italian first division club Cagliari Calcio have reached an agreement regarding a loan deal for the Belgian-Congolese defender Senna Miangue (24). The former Belgian youth international (1.97m) has joined the club on loan until the end of this season, with Cercle also having negotiated an option to buy in the deal.

Senna Miangue is the son of a Belgian mother and a Congolese father. Having originally been a basketball player, he chose to focus on playing football with his local club, RVC Hoboken, when he was 9 years old. In 2007, the talented player moved to Beerschot, before a year later leaving for Antwerp. While playing for The Great Old, Miangue was converted from striker to left back. In 2011, Miangue returned to Beerschot, where he became a youth international and in 2015 moved to top Italian side Internazionale Milan. At Inter, Miangue made it to the first team and made his debut in a home match against Palermo in 2016.

In 2017, Senna Miangue joined Cagliari Calcio. After initially joining on loan, he then signed a contract through June 2022 with the Italian top flight club. In recent seasons, the powerful Miangue has played back in Belgium in loan spells with Standard Liege and Eupen. The left-footed Miangue can play both as a central defender and at left back. Miangue is joining Cercle on loan for one season, with an option to make the Belgian's transfer from Cagliari permanent following the season.

Technical director Carlos Aviña: “Senna is a left-sided center back with excellent attributes for the position including pace, technique, and an aggressive style of play. He also has a good personality and experience abroad that has helped him to mature and grow as a leader. Even though he started as a left back, he has been reconverted into a centre back and that’s where the coach will use him. He is able to play in a back three or in a back four.”

Senna Miangue is the summer's second transfer for Cercle Brugge after Jesper Daland. Welcome Senna!
