The statistics prove it: Majecki has prevented the most goals

A nice statistic emerged on Thursday. “Belgian Football Stats” announced in a tweet that our goalkeeper Radosław Majecki (23) has saved more goals this season than any other goalkeeper in the Jupiler Pro League. It's a mark of a great level of performance from the young Polish international, who has been playing for the Groen-Zwart since last summer.

Majecki started his career with the Polish side Legia Warsaw. In 2020 he was signed by Monaco, which first loaned him to the Polish team for another season. Last season, Monaco decided not to loan the young goalkeeper. Majecki played 11 matches for the Monegasques and kept a clean sheet fivee times. Thanks to those strong performances, he made his debut with the Polish national team in October 2021. He also kept a clean sheet in that game.

This season, Majecki has played for Cercle Brugge. He has already played 2070 minutes for the Groen-Zwart and, according to a striking statistic, is now also the best goalkeeper in the Belgian league.

This new statistic was calculated by subtracting the actual number of goals conceded from the expected number of goals conceded. Majecki has conceded 30 goals this season, while 34.3 goals against were expected. In other words, he prevented 4.3 goals. It marks a very good performance in which he has bettered Simon Mignolet (3.7 goals prevented) and Maarten Vandevoordt (1.7 goals prevented). The 15 other goalkeepers with the most minutes in our competition conceded more goals than expected.

But that's not all, as Warleson can also show great statistics. In the minutes that the Brazilian played for Cercle this season, he has prevented 1.9 goals. As a result, he and Anderlecht goalkeeper Verbruggen join the short list of goalkeepers with a positive score. Cercle is therefore the home of two of the five top goalkeepers on this list.

Cercle hosted KV Kortrijk on Saturday afternoon at a rain-soaked Jan Breydel Stadium. Our Groen-Zwart controlled the visitors from post to post in the first half. This good football was rewarded by Somers and Ueda in a 2-0 lead at halftime. In a second half with few chances, that lead was never in danger as Cercle deservedly kept the three points at home.

After the international break last weekend, Cercle took on KV Kortrijk on Saturday afternoon. Cercle could again count on goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki, who had recovered from a pectoral muscle injury, while Kevin Denkey was suspended.
