The team takes its first training session!

Under a brilliant spring sun, the new football season kicked off on Monday afternoon. Coach Yves Vanderhaeghe welcomed his squad this afternoon for lunch and an introductory meeting afterwards. At around 2.30pm, the players then headed to the gym for a warm-up session to help them get off to a strong start on the pitch at around 3:15 PM.

Cercle's last competitive match was on April 18: the Groen-Zwart drew 1-1 away to KV Oostende and Cercle's season was over. The team trained until the end of April before going off on their holidays. There's no doubt, then, that the players' batteries were fully charged today and all of the team's players were there, with the exception of goalkeeper Sébastien Bruzzese, who felt a bit ill and remained inside. Koshi also took full part in training, while Somers and Kanouté followed individualized plans, training separately.

Newcomer Jesper Daland was also present, the Norwegian having signed a four year contract with Cercle last month, he met his new teammates for the first time today. The Serbian Boris Popovic and the Lithuanian Edgaras Utkus were also new faces: both are AS Monaco players and will train with the Groen-Zwart over the coming weeks.

Following some warm-up exercises, in which the squad was divided into three groups, a first test of the players' physical fitness was administered. To get familiar with the feeling of working with the ball again, a passing drill was to follow before things concluded with a game based on keeping possession. The first training session lasted approximately 75 minutes: the players then went to greet the supporters present before going back to the gym and doing a cool-down.

There will be two training sessions on Tuesday: in the morning at 11 am and in the afternoon at 4.15 pm.
