20-year-old Welsh international Rabbi Matondo has joined Cercle on loan for the season. Cercle have reached an agreement with German side Schalke 04 to loan the winger for one season, including an option to buy.
Welsh international Rabbi Matondo joins Cercle Brugge!
Rabbi Matondo (1.75m) is a versatile attacker who prefers to play as a right winger, but can also play centrally and on the left. Most of his training was done at Cardiff City, where Manchester City noticed the young Welshman and signed him in 2016. The right-footed striker played for the various youth sides in Manchester before moving to Schalke 04 in 2019, the German club paying €9M for the striker.
At Schalke 04, Rabbi played a total of 32 times, 30 of which were in the Bundesliga. Last season, he was loaned out to English second division team Stoke City for six months, where he played 11 games in the second half of the season. Matondo is also a ful international for Wales, having made his senior debut under coach Ryan Giggs in 2018, in a friendly against Albania at the age of 18. In the time since, Matondo has collected 8 caps for his country.
At Cercle, Rabbi Matondo, who despite his young age already offer has quite a bit of experience at both club and international level, will be able to considerably strengthen the team's options in attack. Matondo has arrived on a one season loan, and Cercle have also negotiated a purchase option in the deal.
Rabbi Matondo will join the squad once all administrative matters related to the transfer have been completed.
